Joan Bielemeier, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 74. Born in the Parkchester section of the Bronx, Joan was cherished by her parents, Florence and Henry, and adored her big brother, Kenneth who with his wife Linda helped care for Joan until her death.

From a young age, Joan found joy in the company of animals, often surrounded by a lively mix of birds, cats, and dogs. Her love for animals extended to wildlife as well, though it was humorously curtailed when she was bitten by a squirrel while feeding them one afternoon. Joan spent several years learning to horseback ride, embracing her passion for any activity involving animals. She attended grade school and high school in the Bronx before starting college at Concordia. Though she left school early to work for Wells Fargo and later spent over 25 years at an insurance company, her career also included a brief stint as a crossing guard and culminated in a fulfilling position at the local library.

Though she never married, Joan was deeply devoted to her only niece and nephew, celebrating their accomplishments and milestones with joy. Joan had a passion for shopping, often buying her favorite items in multiple sizes and colors. One was never enough. A passionate music lover, she was a proud member of the fan clubs of Elvis and Johnny Mathis. Additionally, she enjoyed knitting, creating beautiful baby sweaters and blankets for loved ones and friends. Joan is predeceased by her parents, Florence and Henry. She is survived by her brother, sister-in-law, niece, nephew, their spouses, her nephew's children, and many cherished cousins.

In honoring her memory, let us celebrate the joy she brought into our lives and the love she shared with those around her. A memorial service will be held on Monday October 7. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local animal shelter to continue Joan’s love of animals.
