August J. Centi, 96, of Somerset, Pa.,  passed away on September 30, 2024 at The Patriot in Somerset.  August was born July 22, 1928 in the family farmhouse in Three Springs, Huntingdon County, Pa., a son of Domenico Sr. and Madeline Dudash Centi.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Domenico Jr. and wife Janet, and V. Wally Centi, sisters Eleanor (Floyd) Ansell, and Mary (Clarence) Ansell, sister-in-law Delores Krider, brother-in-law Thomas Hess, daughter Kathie Ann, who died January 6, 2022, and wife of 66 years, Winifred Willison Centi, who passed away on October 4, 2023. August is survived by his daughter Vicki Centi of Boswell, Pa., son John (Susan) Centi of Eighty Four, Pa., and daughter Susan (Joseph) Guarino of Roswell, Georgia, as well as brother-in-law Jack Krider of Martinsburg, Pa.  sisters-in-law Sharon Hess of Huntingdon, Pa, and  Priscilla Centi of Three Springs, Pa. August was “Pappy” to grandchildren Andrea Raupach( Michelle Adams), Justin (Emily) Raupach, Claire (Luis) Guzman, Brennan Centi and fiancé Devon Ann Christman, Gordon (Breanna) Centi, and Marco, Nicolas (Jem), Cristoforo, Sofia, and Alex Guarino; great-grandchildren Joshua (Jennifer) Stoppe, Allison Stoppe, Lyla and Anna Raupach, Luis and Mateo Guzman, and Lucas Guarino; and great-great grandchildren Jalyn, Jenson, Jason, and Jackson Stoppe, August was a retired truck driver,  driving most recently for Carolina Freight based in Mechanicsburg, Pa. He was a member of the Teamsters, Christ Casebeer Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the choir, the Old Time Fiddlers Association, and the “Over the Hill Gang”. He and Winifred enjoyed attending bluegrass concerts, polka events, and square dances.  August enjoyed gardening, and canning pickles and hot peppers which were enjoyed by many. He was an avid hunter, and always made time to visit his relatives in Three Springs, especially during hunting season.The family would like to thank the staff of The Patriot, and ViaQuest Hospice for the care provided during August’s  illness. Friends will be received Friday, October 4, 2024 from 10:00 - !2:30 at the Halverson Funeral Home, 476 W. Main St., Somerset, Pa., with the funeral service immediately following.
