Ralph H. Ames, USAF retired, of Navarre, formally of Destin, Florida left this world on Sunday, September 29, 2024. The family is comforted knowing that he is now in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ralph, 83, was born in Syracuse, N.Y. but moved to St. Petersburg, Florida with his family at the age of 6. He attended Junior College there before joining the US Navy and serving for 4 years. He transferred to the US Air Force to continue his service career. While in the Air Force, Ralph and his family lived in Florida; Madrid, Spain; Presque Isle, Maine; Warner Robins, GA and then back in Florida. After his retirement, he worked with the US Postal Service in Destin for 18 years.
Ralph took a working interest with his wife and children, assisting Brenda in the Public Works Department of the City of Destin. He was a Scout Master and Awards Master and assisted with different sports with Lee. With Deeya he was a Viking Band Parent and helped with the Viking Dolls.
While serving in Spain, Ralph received the honored Meritorious Service Medal. He also received 2 Commendation Awards. Throughout his career in flight simulators, he received many other recognitions and awards.
Ralph loved music of all kinds and was known for playing the piano and accordion, both at church and social gatherings. He was Methodist by choice and helped cook for dinners at both the Destin United Methodist Church and the Gulf Breeze United Methodist.
Mr. Ames is survived by his wife of almost 57 years Brenda, his son, Lee (Tracie); his daughter, Deeya Davis (Ron), and three grandchildren, Samantha Alderman (Clayton), Arianna Simmering (Tom), and Taylor Davis (Haley). He also boasted of 3 great-grandchildren, Emily and Jase Alderman and London Simmering. Ralph is also survived by his sister, Jill Victorio of Tennessee; brother-inlaw, Paul Wallace, Jr. (Andy) of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, called him friend, and loved him!
A Committal Service will be held on Friday October 4, 2024, at 1:00pm at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road Pensacola, Florida 32508. The procession will meet no later than 12:30 at Olive Baptist Church- Warrington Campus, 103 West Winthrop Avenue Pensacola, Florida 32507.
