Helen A. Haverty Obituary

Helen A. Haverty, age 99, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024 in Billerica, Massachusetts.

She was born on February 1, 1925, in Round Hill, Camrose, Alberta, Canada. Helen was the daughter of the late Michael and Anastasia (Tytenyck) Kushnerick who had immigrated to Canada from Western Ukraine.

Helen spent much of her life in Newton, before moving to Framingham, Westford and Billerica in her later years. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph A. Haverty, with whom she shared a long and loving marriage.

Together, Helen and Joe raised a close-knit family. She leaves behind her cherished children: Roberta (Edward) O'Rourke, Joanne (Brian) Pollock, Richard (Cathy) Haverty, and Teresa (Robert) Connor. Helen was also the proud grandmother of twelve, the great-grandmother of fifteen, and great-great grandmother to one. Each and every one of them was special to her and in turn they loved Nana and “More Nana” as the youngest called her.

Helen was a dedicated mother and homemaker who found great joy in nurturing her family. She had a lifelong friendship with her dearest friend, Evelyn McMahon. They had much in common, including being transplants from far away, over which their bonds were formed. She was also very close to her brother-in-law Don who, at age 13, took good care of her while Joe was completing his stint in the Army. That started another life-long close relationship.

In her later years, Helen and Joe took up ballroom dancing, which not only brought them joy but also introduced them to a large and welcoming circle of friends. Dancing became one of their favorite pastimes, adding even more love and laughter to their long marriage together.

Helen's warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and friends will be missed by all who knew her. We know she will be very happy rejoining Joe after all these years.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 4 at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. A private burial will follow in the family grave at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline. In lieu of flowers feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.
