James Harry Wise, 93, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Born in Cardiff, MD on April 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Ira Francis and Anna B. (Walker) Wise. He was the loving husband of 55 years of the late Mary Ann (Pomraning) Wise, who preceded him in death on August 15, 2010.
James retired from PPL Electric Utilities where he worked as a lineman for many years. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, earning a Bronze Star for his valiant service with the 279th Infantry Regiment. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to go fishing and hunting, he especially loved the times hunting in Airville (his childhood hometown) and in the beautiful mountains of Potter County. He loved to watch local baseball, often catching games in Wrightsville, Hellam, and East Prospect.
James is survived by his children, Sandra Lynn Kriner of York, John Ira Wise and his wife Marti of York, and Debra Ann Hays and her husband Eugene of East Berlin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lauren, Monica, Kirsten, Mallory, and Lonna; his great grandchildren, Luca, George, and Henry; his brother, William “Bill” Wise and his wife Joyce of Red Lion, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Katherine, Robert, and Betty.
A celebration of James’ life will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 700 Hellam Street, Wrightsville. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
