Jean R. Pye, 83, of Watertown, New York, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, at Samaritan’s Summit Village, where she had been a resident.
Jean was born on September 8, 1941, in Surrey, England. After graduating from high school in England, she moved to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth in her early 20s and became an American citizen.
She adopted her son Taylor at the age of six when her best friend Maureen May Carey passed away from Cancer. Jean never married and dedicated her life to raising her son Taylor.
Jean loved to travel. First, residing in Miami, FL, she worked as a secretary for Anthony Abram Enterprises until her retirement. She enjoyed working alongside Danny Thomas and Anthony Abraham organizing fundraisers to raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Foundation. Following her time in Miami, Jean lived in Oregon and Mexico before settling in Watertown in 2008.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Taylor J. and Kathryn Carey of Watertown, NY; three grandchildren, Anthony, Emma, and Taylor Brooke; her brother and sister-in-law, Reginald and Elizabeth Parnell of Oregon City, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her four brothers, Ray, Danny, Eric, Peter Pye, and her sister, Phyllis.
Following Jean’s wishes, she will be cremated, and no services will be held at this time. The family will arrange a celebration of life at another time.
The Carey family would like to thank the nurses, nursing assistants, and health care team at Samaritan Summit Village for their care of Jean over the last year.
Hart and Bruce Funeral Home are handling arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.hartandbrucefh.com.
