Mr. John Hogarth, 92, of Hopedale MA died unexpectedly on Sunday (September 29, 2024) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne L. (Hayes) Hogarth, who died this past April.
John was born in Wrentham MA, the son of the late John Hogarth Sr. and the late Irene (Dechamps) Hogarth. He attended Wrentham public schools and was a graduate of Wrentham High School, Class of 1950.
Upon graduation from high school, John proudly served four years in the US Air Force as a Korean Conflict veteran, serving from 1950 to 1954.
Following his military service John began his long career working in the foundry industry. He was first employed at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale MA where he was initially employed as a metallurgist and then later in management. He later worked at Standard Foundry located in Worcester MA and then at Fitchburg Foundry located in Fitchburg MA. John also was a part-owner of Flowerland Florists located in Worcester MA.
John was an avid golfer and had been a longtime member of Hopedale Country Club, where he was the club’s “A Flight” champion on several occasions. He was also an avid sports fan of the New England teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and he took great pleasure when they “broke the curse” in 2004. As a younger man he had volunteered as a baseball coach for the Hopedale Little League.
John is survived by his 2 children: Michael J. Hogarth of Bradenton FL and Patricia A. Pighetti-Parent and her husband Bill Parent of Milford MA; his 3 grandchildren: Kevin Pighetti & his partner Chelsee O’Meara of Franklin MA, Karen Pighetti & her fiancé Jeff Kerrigan of Milford MA, and Kristopher Pighetti of Milford MA; his 4 great grandchildren: Olivia Kerrigan, Liam Kerrigan, Charlotte Kerrigan & Luca Pighetti; his 2 siblings: Carol Zagame of Bradenton FL and Alice Lynch of Big Stone Gap VA; his 2 goddaughters: Cheryl Gibson & Caitlin Sullivan; several nieces & nephews; and his sister-in-law: Barbara Sullivan of Medfield MA.
John was the brother of the late Doris Ray and the brother-in-law of the late John “Jack” Hayes.
A Private Funeral will be held Saturday (October 5th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (October 5th) at 12 NOON in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
