Gerald “Jerry” Eugene Nelson, 84, of Panama City, Florida went to be with the Lord on Monday September 30, 2024, while surrounded by his loved ones. Jerry was born on February 16, 1940.


As a young man he worked with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany in Air Defense Artillery Missiles. Throughout the remainder of his life and career he owned and operated multiple businesses to include Bay County Farm and Garden, Mozelle’s Restaurant, National Oil Company gas station in Lake Wales, Florida and multiple rental properties. He worked with family at Bayou George Hardware prior to his retirement. He also served on the City of Springfield Civil Service Board. He was the patriarch of the family teaching work ethic and providing unwavering love, guidance and wisdom. He worked hard his entire life and lived life to the fullest. He was an avid collector of all things. He enjoyed his weekends at the local flea market and most days would find him eating at Gene’s Oyster Bar. He was a humble man always extending his hand and kindness to help others in any situation. His big heart, blue eyes and infectious smile will never be forgotten. To know him is to love him.


Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Myles Monroe Nelson, Sr. and Bertha Mae Bush Nelson; wife, Debbie; son, Ward Facer; brothers, Myles Jr., Charles, Fred, and Jimmy; sisters, Bertha, Barbara Ann, and Carol; lifetime friend Joe Attaway.


Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Susie Nelson, Haley Nelson, Melinie Facer, and bonus daughter Telisa Stall; son, Gerald Nelson, Jr.; former wife of 18 years and lifelong friend, Carolyn Davis; grandchildren, Brandi Charette, Alexis Winsett, Gerald Nelson III, Trinity and Breanna Barfield, Amber and Sara Myers; great grandchildren, Izabella and Briley Charette; brother-in-law, Alvin Barry; sister in laws, Patsy and Betty Nelson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.


His daughter Susie was honored to care for him and would like to extend special thanks to Brandi Charette, Carolyn Davis, Al Barry, Judy Wade, HCA Gulf Coast Hospital, EMS, and Emerald Coast Hospice. Sincere gratitude to family and friends who took the time to call, visit, send care packages and cards, and who prayed for him. May the Lord bless you all for your acts of love and kindness. The family would also like to thank the staff of Heritage Funeral Home for the kindness and compassion shown during this time.


Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Rev. Craig Brannon officiating, music will be provided by Ward Facer, Jerry’s son.
