Susan May Zelenak, 70 of Maysville, passed away Sunday at First Health Hospice of Pinehurst, NC. Susan was a loving wife and mother who was also known by many of her friends as “Smurf”. She was a proud Army Veteran who continued looking out for service members through her support of veteran’s causes such as Yellow Ribbon and Wounded Warriors. In her spare time she enjoyed riding motorcycles and she loved tending to all manner of plants, trees, and flowers as a Master Gardener in Onslow County. She was loved and will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 6th at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville at 1 PM, and will have a service celebrating her life at 2 PM following the visitation. A graveside service will be held Monday morning at 10AM at Coastal Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors.
Susan is preceded in death by 3 children Catherine Stanley, William Stanley, and Robert May, and her parents Robert and Ruth. She is survived by her husband Greg Zelenak of the home, son Nicholas Anton Zelenak of New Jersey; sister Nancy of CO; and nephew Owen of Colorado.
