Rev. Joseph W. Bernet, 81, of E. Sands St., Oneida, passed away on Monday morning, September 30, 2024, at his home.
He was born on January 1, 1943, in Oneida, the son of Joseph O. and Geraldine (Houseman) Bernet. He was a 1961 graduate of Oneida High School.
On March 21, 1964, Joe was united in marriage to Gail A. Broga in the First United Methodist Church.
Joe was a tool and die maker of New Process Gear in Syracuse for sixteen years, retiring in 2004. He had previously worked for Grey Syracuse and Hartman Enterprises. Joe was also a New York State Emergency Medical Technician for thirty-two years.
Joe was a member of New Life Assembly of God where he served as assistant to the pastor and was head usher for many years. He also conducted the weekly services at the Hazel Carpenter Home.
Joe enjoyed photography and was self employed as a wedding photographer.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Gail; are two sons, Joseph H. (Heather) Bernet, of Munnsville, and their children, Hailey and Tim, and James P. Bernet (fiancé, Melissa Seelman), of Utica, and their son, Alaric; a brother, Jeff (Claudia) Bernet, of New Bern, NC; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Bernet, of Sherrill; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by two brothers, Jack (Dolores) Bernet, and James Bernet.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the New Life Assembly of God, 4704 Rt. 365, Oneida, where the Rev. Daniel King will officiate. Interment will take place in Oneida Castle Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Friday prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the New Life Assembly of God Church.
