Mr. Bruce Carlie Durham, 95, of Jacksonville, FL departed from his earthly body on September 30, 2024. He was surrounded by his daughter and grandson, clutching the charm containing a picture of his soulmate, best friend and wife of 69 years.
Mr. Durham was born January 3, 1929, in Phenix City, AL. He was the tangible expression of Christ’s love and attended New Hope Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. He had unwavering faith, and we are confident in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Mr. Durham lived a life filled with service, love and laughter.
Mr. Durham was a proud member of the United States Navy. He dedicated 20 plus years of his life to serving our country while exemplifying the values of honor and integrity. After retiring, he decided to work at Jacksonville City Motor Pool as a skilled mechanic, using his talents to help others and share his vast knowledge of machinery with friends and family. Mr. Durham was a loving husband and father, whose warmth and compassion knew no bounds. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him and were touched by his generosity.
Family was everything to Mr. Durham, as he could be found sitting on the sofa being a remarkable storyteller to all who visited. Mr. Durham had an extraordinary ability to weave tales that captivated listeners of all ages. His kind sweet nature extended to everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Mr. Durham had a huge heart in which he shared unconditional love and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and love him.
Bruce Carlie Durham was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Margie Durham; parents, Albert and Fannie Mae Durham; brothers, Albert, Jr. and Melvin; son, Michael Durham; daughter, Sandra Merritt; grandson, Justin Durham; great grandson, Chance Goodman and daughter in law, Nancy Durham. What an amazing reunion he must be having!
He is survived by his children, Bruce Durham, Jr., Ron Durham, Bruce Durham, Ken Durham (Rebecca), Lisa Montanez and Barbara Rigdon; brother, Larry Durham and sister, Linda Eaker. He had a magnitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, along with two furry companions, Limon and Layla.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, October 7, 2024 in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Chapel. To celebrate Mr. Durham’s life, his grandson, Nick Hartwell will officiate his service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 8, 2024 in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Chapel. The family requests in lieu of flowers, consider potted plants to plant in honor of their beloved Dad and Grandfather.
Rest in peace, Bruce Carlie Durham. You will be dearly missed, but your spirit will remain forever in our hearts. Friends are encouraged to share treasured memories on Mr. Durham’s tribute wall.
