Michael Stephenson Obituary

Michael Stephenson, 71, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after a 17 year battle with cancer. He never feared death but prayed that he would be content with whatever God had for him.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Countryside Bible Chapel (3998 Fenton Ave, Stratford, IA). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.


Michael “Mike” David Stephenson was born May 18, 1953, in Raleigh, North Carolina to Marvin and Janet (Frazier) Stephenson. Following high school graduation, Mike pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina, Columbia International University, and the University of South Carolina earning a Master’s Degree in Linguistics with an emphasis in TESOL. During his career, Mike taught at the American Cultural Center in Egypt and various colleges stateside.


On July 15, 1978, Mike was united in marriage to Kathryn “Kathy” Ann McLellan. The couple lived in Minnesota, Egypt and Iowa and were blessed with two sons, Timothy, and Andrew. Mike had a passion for sharing the gospel with others. He enjoyed preaching, leading Bible studies, and organizing missions’ conferences. He was also an avid sports fan and specifically enjoyed cheering for the North Carolina Tarheels basketball team. Mike also treasured time spent with Kathy, his sons, their wives and 11 precious grandchildren.


Mike will be deeply missed by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Stephenson; sons, Timothy (Maria) Stephenson, and Andrew (Rebekah) Stephenson; 11 grandchildren; and siblings, Mark Stephenson, Frank Stephenson; Jean (John) Sandlin, Karen (Jeff) Loveless, and Linda (Tom) Haller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Janet Stephenson.
