Betty L. DeLong Obituary

Betty L. DeLong, 101, of Hamburg, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024; one week prior to her 102nd birthday. She was the wife of Jacob L. DeLong, who died in 1990.


Born in Bowmansdale, Cumberland Co., she was the daughter of the late Abner R., Sr. and Ivy Esther (Calaman) Huntsberger. Betty worked for White Shield Drug Store, Ely's Shoe Store, Ruth's Dress Shop and Doris Berry Shop, all of Hamburg. She was a member of the former Bethany United Methodist Church, Hamburg, where she sang in the church choir. Betty enjoyed singing in the Blue Mountain Heritage Chorus; and was part of the Senior Coffee Clutch that would would meet at Rutter's in Hamburg.


Betty is survived by her daughter: Linda L. (DeLong) Evans, wife of Charles M. Evans, III, Bernville; daughter-in-law: M. Carolyn DeLong, Charleston, South Carolina; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her son: Douglas L. DeLong; sisters: C. Jean Bachman and Shirley A. Sterner; and brother: Abner R. Huntsberger, Jr.


Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2024 Lehigh Street, Allentown, PA 18103.
