Willard Edward Jones, 88 went to be with Jesus on September 29, 2024. He was born April 24, 1936, in Hurley, MS. He was a member of Canaan Assembly of God, where he was an honorary board member and taught Sunday school for 32 years. On February 15, 2024, Ed was voted in as a lifelong member of the Official Board at Canaan Assembly of God.
In his younger years, he was known for farming, coaching baseball, and spending time with his family on the houseboat. He started his career as a dozer operator working on the original construction of Chevron Refinery (Standard Oil at the time) and Ingalls Shipyard. He hired on at Ingalls Shipyard in the late 1970s and was a Superintendent over transportation, where he retired in 1998.
In 1995, he opened Hurley Archery from his home in Hurley. He was known for the quality work, hot coffee, and good conversations with his customers. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, watching westerns, growing vegetables, taking care of his fruit trees and rose bushes, and being a faithful member of his church.
Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, Lorraine Neely Jones; his parents, Willard and Leola Jones; daughters, Susan Jones and Tracy Jones; and siblings, Benny Jones, Mary Rose Dempsey, Etta Grey Kitchens, Juanita Carter, and Robert M. Bobby Jones.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Teresa (Kenny Harris) Spring, Lisa (Bart) Jenkins, and Mary (Dale) Seward; sons, Tim Jody Jones and Terry Jones; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday October 2, 2024, at Canaan Assembly of God in Moss Point, MS, the funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Bro. Rodney Coleman officiating.
Interment will be held at Magnolia Springs Cemetery with Dustin Spring, Clint Spring, Garrett Brown, Jacob Seward, Ben Jones, Kaleb Haas, and Justin Jenkins serving as pallbearers and Freddie Carter as honorary pallbearer.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and their nurses Sandy and Chelsea, and Chaplin Ken for the care and compassion they have shown Ed and his family during this time.
