Dennis “Red” Hurley Harger, 83, of Monessen, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024 at Penn Highlands Mon Valley. Born January 7, 1941 in Charleroi to Alvin Harger and Cecilia Hurley Harger.
Dennis graduated from Charleroi Area High School with the class of 1960. He was the center on the 1959 WPIAL Championship Football Team. He served his country honorably as a Military Police Officer from 1961 to 1963 in Germany. He retired from the Charleroi Water Authority. He was a member of the American Legion Post 659 in Belle Vernon and several local social clubs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Carol McKita Harger. Two daughters, Kathleen (Rich) McQuillis of Newell Pa and Lynn (Jasper) Campana of Little River SC. Six grandchildren who he adored, Connor (Kelsey) Campana, Sarah Stiffy, Cameron Campana, Carly Campana, Shayne McQuillis and Ian McQuillis. He is also survived by a brother Neil (Betty Ann) Harger of Monessen and a sister Vivian (Norman) Hammitt of Monessen, brother-in-law Edward (Elinore) McKita of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters Regina Lape, Eleanor Caruso, Marion Murray and Cecilia Lowe and two brothers Alvin Harger and Glynn Harger.
Friends and family will be received from 2:00 to 8:00p.m. on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024 at HOGAN-MELENYZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 at 11:00a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church – Charleroi Site, 624 Washington Ave., Charleroi.
