Virgil L. Packard walked into the presence of God on September 29, 2024. A man of many God given talents, Virgil served several years as a missionary in Peru, South America and on staff at Rio Grande Bible Institute. After his retirement as lead mechanic at Grand Rapids Public Schools he continued his traveling adventures.
An avid motorcyclist, he traveled through 49 states, all the Canadian provinces, extensive rides in the states of Mexico, and many other miscellaneous trips on his numerous bikes. The Andes Mountains was the scene as a family of three (Virgil, Bonnie and 3-year-old Jim) traveled from the jungle town of Pucallpa to Lima, Peru on a Honda 175.
Virgil is survived by: Bonnie, (his wife of 58 years), son Virgil James (Tina), daughter Karis (Josh) Grant. Grandchildren: Virgil W., Amanda, Austin, Sabrina, Devin, Tyler, Aleesa, and Eli. Great Grandchildren: Alora, Ben, Crystal, Aria, Harper, Kyla, Lincoln, and Jaxson. Sisters: Pat Houghton and Ethel Kuney.
He was preceded in death by his son, Nathan William; parents, Frank & Irene Packard; sister, Iris Hoover; and brother, Frank.
Virgil lived his life as an example of the Christian walk with our living God. His new phase of the journey has now begun! To us this temporarily heart-breaking separation has become the fulfilment of his life.
