Mae Moss Piland, age 88, of Union Point, GA, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024 at St Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. One of four and the only girl Mae was born in Covington Georgia on January 7, 1936, to the late Thomas Frank Moss and Cassie Mae Harper Moss. She graduated from Greensboro High School and on February 26, 1953 she married Charlie Piland. At the time of his death in 2007 they had been married fifty-four years. They made their home in Union Point and she worked with him at Rutherford’s Grocery Store which they later owned. She also worked with him at M & G Service Station in Union Point. Mae and Charlie were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Union Point. She enjoyed listening to the news, sitting on her porch as she watched the traffic, playing word find puzzles and going to Helen.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Piland Gunn and husband Mike of Madison, GA and Janet Piland Sisk of Madison, GA; her brother, Lanier Moss of Athens, GA; her granddaughter, Jessica Gunn Denham and husband Russ and children Jayden and Katie; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Charlie Piland, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Thomas Moss and John W. Moss.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Woodville Cemetery, 1191 Peachtree Avenue East, Woodville, GA 30669 with Rev. Dennis Garner and Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Paul Jackson, Dee Lindsey, Elliott Lindsey, Tommy Swann and Mark Higdon.  Honorary pallbearer will be Gene Lindsey.  The family requests that any memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 206 Thornton Street, Union Point, GA 30669. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
