Daniel H. Newcomer, formerly of Sayreville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Sunrise of Westtown Assisted Living in West Chester, PA. He was 93 years old.

Born and raised in Shenandoah, PA, to the late Daniel and Oleda Newcomer, Daniel was a dedicated scholar. After graduating high school, he pursued his passion for education, earning his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg State Teacher’s College and later obtaining a master’s degree from Rutgers University. Though unfamiliar with the town of Sayreville at the time, Daniel began what would become a remarkable 40+ year career at Sayreville War Memorial High School, where he ultimately retired as the Supervisor of Guidance. He was deeply committed to shaping the lives of countless students throughout his tenure.

Daniel was a man of many interests and enjoyed an active lifestyle. He loved to golf, go to the gym, and read whenever he could. He also loved to travel with his wife, Connie. He became very involved in his community as a member of the Lions Club, Sacred Heart Senior Club, a softball umpire, and a referee for both basketball and soccer. But there was nothing that he loved more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Daniel will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Daniel is predeceased by his beloved wife Constance Newcomer, and his siblings, Glen, Lamar, and June.

Surviving are his loving children and their spouses Beverly and Jack Fitzsimmons of Sayreville, Mark and Cheryl Newcomer of PA, and Daniel and Donna Newcomer of SC; his dear grandchildren and their spouses Kerry and Brandon Cuomo, Kristen and Jim Ambrose, Erin and Tyler Curto, Ryan and Emily Newcomer, Kyle and Lauren Newcomer, Caitlyn Newcomer, Griff and Julie Carr, and Rebecca and Travis Ackert; his loving great-grandchildren Michael, Noah, Rory, Margaret, and Tessa with 2 more set to arrive very soon; as well as many dear friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 9:15am on Thursday from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with a 10am Catholic Mass at Sacred Heart RC Church in South Amboy. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in South Brunswick.

Calling hours at the funeral home will take place on Wednesday from 4pm to 7:30pm.
