Francis Wessinger, of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on May 23rd, 1936, also in Howell, he was a man whose life was characterized by a commitment to his family, his farm, and the land he cherished.
Francis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marian, just a few months prior to his own passing. Their love story began on a trail ride with friends and blossomed into a beautiful marriage on April 30, 1959. Together, they cultivated not only their love for each other but also a life full of joy and dedication to their shared passions. He was also preceded in death by his parents Francis and Margaret Wessinger; grandparents Paul Roberts and Zella Rogers; and sister Barbara Judd.
He leaves behind his "daughter by choice", Debbie (Ed) Lybrink, niece Sarah Lavy, and nephews Stephen Judd, Robert Salmon, and Todd Salmon, who will all miss him dearly.
Francis was a man who spoke through his actions, and his hands were rarely still, always busy tending to the needs of his expansive farm. He was a lifelong farmer, starting out with horses before transitioning to modern day farm equipment. After 30 years of raising dairy cows, he started raising beef cattle, all along crop farming and bailing hay. He was exceptional with meteorology, always predicting the weather by signs of nature before announced on television.
Francis was known as a man of integrity who could always be counted on. He was a humble man who didn't like the attention on himself. His words were few but meaningful, and his actions impacted all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a quiet leader, a mentor to many, and a friend to all. His presence was a comforting constant in an ever-changing world. He was always willing to offer his help and he had a wealth of knowledge. He knew all of the history of the surrounding land and the people who originated in the area. Francis was a "to the point" kind of man. He didn't hold anything back and you always knew exactly what he thought.
