Mr. William Ambrose O’Brath, Jr., age 80, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at his residence. He was born June 26, 1944 in Plant City, Florida, the son of William A., Sr. and Dora Mae (Parker) O’Brath.
Mr. O’Brath served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a retired law enforcement officer with the Jefferson County, Kentucky, Police Department, retiring after more than twenty years of service as a motorcycle police officer and sergeant of detectives in the Burglary Division. He was also a deputy sheriff with the Jefferson County, Kentucky, Sheriff’s Department before retiring to care for his late wife.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing softball, and was a faithful member of the Louisville Metro Fraternal Order of Police.
His surviving family includes two sons and daughters-in-law: Timothy and Linda O’Brath of Milton, Kentucky, and Troy and Janet O’Brath of Bedford; two sisters: Shirley Rogers of Mount Washington, Kentucky and Barbara Bussey of Barnesville, Georgia; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Kathleen Nelson on June 10, 2017; and one brother, Terry O’Brath.
Entombment will be private at the Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, Kentucky.
