Billy R. Lidgett Obituary

Billy R. Lidgett, 83, of Moshannon, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024. Born on June 17, 1941, in Clearfield, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Vivian V. (Bumbarger) Lidgett. On June 24, 1960, in Moshannon, he married the love of his life, Lora L. Hahn, who survives at home.

Billy was a 1959 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He worked for JH France Refractory. He started as a laborer and worked just about every job there, retiring in 2005 after 38+ years. He was the Worker’s Union President for many years.

Billy worked other jobs throughout his life but found none as rewarding as working in his yard. He was not one to sit still. He was always putzing around his home and yard, making it he and Lory’s castle.

He was very supportive of the Moshannon United Methodist Church. He served on the church board as the Chairman for many years. He helped maintain the building and the lawn. He also was a board member of the Moshannon Community Center. He worked tirelessly for many years there, helping make repairs, maintaining the building and serving meals.

Billy and Lory held a community Easter Egg Hunt, which was held in their back yard. The egg hunt began as a small family event and became a community gathering every year. After 50 years and countless kids attending, Billy and Lory had to stop. It really broke their hearts because they enjoyed seeing the community come together. He also played Santa for many years on the Mountaintop area. Families would call Billy and let him know where the gifts were hiding, he’d knock on the door and the surprise on the little one’s face was all he needed. And if there was not enough for each child, Billy was always able to put something out of his bag.

Billy went to work in 2008 at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe. What started as a parttime job, ended to be a lasting relationship with the owner. He quickly became John’s right hand man, and a person John could depend upon for anything. That was the type of man Billy was. He would do anything for anyone that needed help.

Through everything Billy did in life, nothing was to compare to his family. They came first. He wanted nothing but the best for his girls and then his grandchildren. He supportive them in all their events, traveling to all the sporting games, musical events, college events, etc. His family was his world.

Billy is survived by his wife, Lory and two daughters: Tammy L. Spicer and her husband, Stacy, of Port Matilda and Billi J. Coleman and her husband, Barry, of Mill Hall, five grandchildren: Myranda Walker and her husband, Matt; Morgan Telemaque; Darin Spicer and his wife, Brittany; Averi Corl and her husband, Zach, and Paige Kerstetter and her husband, Dylan and six great grandchildren: Grant. Macallan, Jameson, Rowan, Haidyn, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his brother Terry Lidgett of Clarence and three sisters: Jeannine Walker of Philipsburg, Penny Smades of South Carolina, and Cherry Sue Coble of Punxsutawney.

Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a daughter, Marietta L. Lidgett, three brothers: Ronald Lidgett, Larry Lidgett and Joseph Lidgett.

Following Billy’s wishes, there will be no public service at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moshannon United Methodist Church, PO Box 104, Moshannon, PA 16859.
