Jimmy Ray Krider, 77, of Todd passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
Jimmy was born February 4, 1947, in Watauga County, he was the son of the late Charles G. Krider and the late Mae H. Krider.
Jimmy was a 1965 graduate of Beaver Creek High School in Ashe County. He was a 1968 graduate of Appalachian of State University. Jimmy taught thirty-three years in Ashe County Schools at Elkland School, Beaver Creek High School and Ashe County High School. During his time with Ashe County Schools, Jimmy thrived as a coach for girls’ and boys’ basketball and football. His love for coaching was legendary. Jimmy brought enthusiasm and camaraderie to every game.
His dedication as an educator and coach impacted the lives of students and coworkers over generations. After retiring, Jimmy enjoyed traveling, farming and Carolina Basketball. Jimmy took great pride in tending to his land and herds. His hands, weathered by years of hard work, were always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was fixing a fence or teaching his grandchildren the joys of planting seeds and caring for livestock. Jimmy especially enjoyed sharing his love of farming and wit with his youngest grandson, Griffin. You would rarely see one without the other in the hayfield during mowing season. Outside of teaching, coaching, and farming, his greatest loves were his four grandchildren. He adored supporting them at football, volleyball, basketball, cheer, dance, and academic events.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diana G. Krider whom he married on July 15, 1967, sons, William “Jeff” Krider (Todd) and fiancé Kristal Hamby (West Jefferson) and Jason R. Krider and wife Sharon B. Krider (Todd) grandchildren, Jackson Krider, Zoey Krider and Griffin Krider, Hannah Krider all of Todd and Chris Hamby (Salt Lake City, Utah), Hannah Hamby (West Jefferson).
