Joseph Garth Tucker, 66, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22 at U.C. Medical Center.

Born July 11, 1958 to parents Escom and Maynie Tucker, in Cincinnati, Joe attended Western Hills High School where he played various sports, including varsity football, basketball and baseball. After graduating, he worked as a surveyor for a railroad company before joining his parents and siblings to work at Tucker's Restaurant on Vine Street.

Joe served the community of Over-the Rhine in many ways. He could always be found at the grill talking about sports or politics and was known for remembering everybody's order and every customer's name. Joe was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who was hungry or in need of a ride, a free cup of coffee or just a good conversation.

Following the pandemic, Tucker's restaurant closed after 74 years in business. In recent years, Joe cooked for the Friars at St. Francis church, in Over-the-Rhine and at 1883 Kitchen at Kroger, downtown.

During his off hours, Joe loved playing sports and enjoyed many concerts with his daughter, Katie. Joe could be found eating UDF vanilla ice cream (ALWAYS with crumbled-up Chips Ahoy! cookies) while watching his beloved Reds and Bengals on TV. He also enjoyed hosting numerous back yard parties with many friends and driving his convertible Triumph with his dog, Simon, riding alongside.

Joe's survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Carla Tucker, of Over-the-Rhine, his daughter, Katie Cappel (Paul), of Western Hills, and his three grandchildren, Ben, Anna and Gavin. He is also survived by his sister, Betty and sister in law, Nadine along with many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents E.G. and Maynie, his grandson, Adam Cappel, and his brothers Mike and Bob.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 10am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm at St. Francis Seraph Catholic Church, 1615 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. Interment to follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
