Monty Ray, son of Melvin and Elaine (Juel) Bergmann was born April 23, 1957, in Waverly. He was baptized on June 16, 1957, and confirmed on April 30, 1972, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Frederika. Monty attended school in Tripoli and graduated from Tripoli High School in 1975. On August 20, 1977, he was united in marriage with Jeanette Rieckenberg at St. John Lutheran Church Western Douglas, rural Plainfield. To this union three children were born, Lindsy, Jeremy, and Morgan. The family lived in Tripoli for a few years prior to moving to Sumner in 1987. Monty began his working career at General Tire, working many years in the area, prior to owning and operating Thunder Lanes Bowling Alley in Sumner. He retired in October of 2022 from Bruns Machine in Cedar Falls. While the family lived in Tripoli, Monty was a member and involved in the Tripoli Jaycees and has been a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner for many years. He enjoyed golfing, stock car racing, bowling (bowled 300 several times), was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings, and loved attending his grandchildren’s activities. Monty assisted his daughter, Morgan the last twelve years covering sports for the local newspapers, something he thoroughly enjoyed.

Monty is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Sumner; children, Lindsy Bergmann of Rochester, Minnesota, Jeremy (Dawn) Bergmann of Evansdale, and Morgan Bergmann of Sumner; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Teagan and Asher; father, Melvin Bergmann of Tripoli; brother, Dallas (Melinda) Bergmann of Readlyn; sister, Misty (Dean Lantow) Bergmann of Waucoma; sisters-in-law, Susan (Dean) Lantzky of Sumner and Lisa (Don) Pearce of Willmar, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Bergmann; brother, Mitch and his wife, Dawn; sister, Dawn Krueger; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and LaVern Rieckenberg; and several aunts and uncles.
