Norman Glenn Harper Obituary

Norman Glenn Harper, age 91, of Cedar Springs, passed away early on Monday, September 23, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Harvard, MI on October 6, 1932, the son of Glenn and Blanch (Essex) Harper. From a young age Norman developed a deep love of the outdoors. As young men, he and his brothers would hunt together during deer hunting season. In 1953 Norm was drafted into the Army, which he proudly served until his separation in 1955. Following his military service he went back home to help his father with the family lumber mill. A few years later, he began a career with Gibson’s in Greenville that would last until his retirement. In the summers when he was laid off from the refrigerator manufacturing company he worked part time for the Cedar Springs Post Office delivering mail. He was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter in Oakfield Township for several years. As Norman grew older and gained more free time, he spent his time outside or in his garden. Naturally, as an avid outdoorsman, he loved animals, especially dogs. He also enjoyed playing cards and piecing puzzles together. Norman is survived by his wife, Delores Harper; children, Joseph Harper, May Ann (John) McClure, Jane Baker, and Kristen Harper; grandchildren, Julie (Ian) Miller, Matthew (Kelly) McClure, Michael Baker, Erik Baker, Brittany Baker; great-grandchildren, Carson Miller, Kaelyn Miller, and Kason Miller; brother, Darold Harper; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and several siblings. A visitation for Norman will take place on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 at Hurst Funeral Home from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Graveside services will take place at Saint Margaret Catholic Cemetery immediately following the visitation. For those who would like to make a donation in Norman’s honor, memorial contributions may be directed to Oakfield Township Fire Department.
