Stevensville - Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend Sharon McGinnis (nee Heath, nee Hill), 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Stevensville with her daughters at her side on Monday, September 16, 2024 after a three-month battle with Glioblastoma. She leaves behind daughters Katy and Amanda McGinnis, son-in-law Ed Leikam, and granddaughters Gwen and Maggie Leikam.
Many people knew Sharon from her forty years at Community Medical Center, where she worked as a scheduler in the Rehab Department prior to her retirement in 2011. She made many wonderful friends there over the years, and she was very grateful for all the love and support she received from everyone. She was a fan of the Office, and loved quoting Dwight or Michael with co-workers who also watched the show. She always dressed and accessorized to a T for work every day, and some might remember the lively tapping of her heels in the tiled hallways. She loved animals and was especially devoted to Animeals, which she supported for many years. All who knew her will remember her kind heart and compassionate character.
In 2018, she moved to Stevensville, where she was able to spend her final years doing the things she loved most: taking care of her grandchildren, knitting Afghans for family and friends, gardening and tending to her many flower pots, and watching the deer, birds, turkeys, marmots, foxes and quail that “lived here before her.” In retirement, she favored wearing T-shirts with peace signs and adding the occasional new garden gnome to those already among her flowers and shrubs. Her family was incredibly lucky to have a mom and grandma like her; kindness like hers is rare and there is now less of it in the world.
She did not want a service, so the family asks everyone to please take a moment to post your condolences and remembrances on the Whitesitt Funeral Home website, and please donate to Animeals in lieu of flowers.
