Alvin Eugene Goodwyn, 93, of Willingboro, New Jersey, departed this life on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 2, 1931, to the late Herbert George and Lillian Burton Goodwyn in Cheriton, Virginia.
Alvin was educated in the Northampton Public School System in Virginia. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the military. Alvin proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army where he received a Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Alvin was united in marriage to Ivy Ruth on January 22, 1994, and has been happily married for over 30 years.
Over the years, Alvin worked at various companies in the Skillman, Princeton, and Trenton, NJ areas prior to and after joining General Felt Industries, Inc., where he worked as a Foreman for many years until its closure. His last role before retirement was as a Transport Driver for Medi-Transport, a role he took great pride in.
Alvin was a dedicated servant of the Lord, faithfully serving as a Deacon at Living Word Ministries Christian Center. His commitment to faith, family and community was evident in every aspect of his life.
Alvin was an avid fisherman, hunter and a jack of all trades who could fix and build anything. He loved watching Westerns, football, and sitting in his special chair watching his favorite shows over the years, including The Haves and the Have Nots, Sistas, Love and Marriage Huntsville, and Ready to Love - just to name a few. He was described by many as a kind and gentle soul and a quiet but strong man. To others, he was a bonus Dad and Pop-Pop. He was the Patriarch of the family and a true protector of those that he loved.
