Vera Alice Heyer
July 4, 1928 — September 16, 2024
Vera A. Heyer, 96, of Boise went to be with Jesus her Savior on Monday, September 16, 2024.
She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on July 4, 1928 to George M. Anthis and Mattie Inez (LaHue) Anthis. She grew up and attended schools in Twin Falls where she lived nearly all of her life until moving to Boise in 2015 to be near family. As a teenager, she worked at Woolworth’s and Idaho Egg Company. During that time, she met her spouse, Royal R. Heyer and they were married in Twin Falls on April 6, 1947. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage until Royal’s passing in 2014. During her lifetime she was employed by the J. C. Penny Co., was the “Lunch Lady” at Harrison Elementary School, worked at the Sta-Well Health Food Store, and later owned and operated the Mode-O-Day store in Lynwood Mall. She knew someone wherever she went in town and was a positive influence on those around her. She had a great sense of humor and a laugh that was contagious.
Vera loved the mountains of Idaho and enjoyed many vacations camping with family and friends in the Sawtooths, at Redfish, Alturus and Stanley Lakes. The Featherville area was one of her favorites, and many camping trips were also made to the South Hills. She taught her family to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, like the sweet taste of a vine ripened tomato from the garden or to stop and enjoy the sound of rain on the patio roof. She enjoyed gardening, growing both flowers and vegetables, and oil painting. She had a tender place in her heart for dogs and routinely fed them a prepared dinner before the family ate. She loved dogs and had several during her lifetime that were very dear to her.
From the time she was a child, she attended the Twin Falls Church of the Nazarene where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and it showed in the way she lived her life. She would frequently remind her friends and family that she was praying for them and they felt the power of those prayers.
It was always evident that her priority in life was being a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. There was never any doubt that she loved her family, because she freely and often told us so. In her later years she was known to her family and close friends simply as “Gram.”
She is survived by her son, Lex (Velda) Heyer, grandsons Andy (Rachel) Heyer and Bill (Alyson) Heyer, as well as great-grandchildren Ava, Addison, Cole and Torie Heyer (Andy and Rachel’s children) and Carson and Weston Heyer (Bill and Alyson’s children).
She was preceded in death by her husband Royal Heyer, and brothers Robert (Bob) Anthis, Richard (Gene) Anthis, James (Jim) Anthis, and many, many friends.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Friday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
