Laura Laviolette, of Owen Sound passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice in her 64th year surrounded by her loved ones after a brave battle with cancer.
Laura was born on September 17, 1960, in Montreal to Norman and Marjorie Laviolette. The eldest of two children along with her brother Chuck. Norm’s career transferred their young family to Owen Sound in the mid-sixties for work at Black Clawson Kennedy.
Laura entered elementary school at Victoria School, completing her education at West Hill Secondary School. After graduating from the Office Administration Program at Seneca College, she returned to West Hill Secondary/Owen Sound District Secondary School as part of the secretarial staff, eventually becoming the Office Manager with a career spanning over 40 years. Her management skills and respect for the staff and students formed a lifelong network of friendships.
Laura was beloved and cherished by her best friend and husband, Dean McCallum. She was an incredible mother who loved her two children, Sarah Elizabeth Town, and Laura Louise Town. She was a loyal and loving sister to Chuck and Lisa Laviolette. She was a loving aunt to Kale (deceased) and Peter. Devoted grandmother to five wonderful children: Ava, William, Leo, Elijah, and Connor. She adored her many cousins scattered about the Belle Province of Québec and beyond. She was very much loved and admired by the McCallum family.
She idolized her Nanny Berry from Rawdon, Quebec, who mentored her in life and taught her the finer skills of sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Eventually she became an excellent sewer and made clothing for her kids and herself, enjoying this pastime even while enduring chemo. Vacations in Rawdon were a wonderful opportunity for family reunions on Lake McGillivray where the days were long, and nature was plentiful.
Nothing in this world made her happier than her family. She was selfless, determined, and grateful for all life had to offer. Her passion for horses was something she shared and continued with her daughter Sarah. The laughter and love of her grandbabies brought her enormous joy alongside her daughter, Laura. Her love of music, laughter, food, and nature were experiences she shared and valued so much with her love, Dean.
Predeceased by her parents Norm and Marjorie Laviolette, and her nephew Kale Laviolette. Survived by her husband Dean McCallum; daughters Sarah Town (Chris Proulx) and Laura Town; grandchildren Ava, William, Leo, Elijah and Connor; and brother Chuck Laviolette (Lisa Laviolette). She will be fondly remembered by her niece and nephews.
