Helen M. Desens, beloved wife of 64 years to Ralph, a cherished mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, at the age of 85 at Fairview Nursing Home in Mauston, Wisconsin. Helen was the daughter of LeRoy and Arlene (Thomas) Steahl and was born on July 12, 1939, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. 

Helen graduated from West Bend High School in 1958. She later met and married Ralph Desens on November 14, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.  Helen and Ralph lived in West Bend for over 40 years. While in West Bend Helen worked many years as a drill press operator at Pick Heaters and retired in December of 2000.  When they retired, they moved to New Lisbon and have resided here for 23 years. 

Helen is survived by her loving daughters, Bonnie Desens of Mauston, and Clarissa (Jim) Rieke of Campbellsport, WI. Her sisters, Nancie (Douglas) Crass and Jane (Willie) Sommer, both of West Bend, will fondly remember Helen's warmth and guidance. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Portia Boegel, and her brother-in-law Ken Boegel. Her memory will be embraced by all the lives she touched.

Helen's zest for life was evident through her involvement in various clubs and activities. She was a member of the West Bend Kettle Campers Club and the West Bend Kettle Trailblazers Club. Her love for the great outdoors was unparalleled, and she found joy in fishing and boating. Camping trips were among her favorite retreats, as they combined her love for adventure with the opportunity to create lasting memories with family and friends.

Those who knew Helen knew of her innate ability to entertain. Her home was always filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of her hospitality. She had a gift for making everyone feel at home, and her presence was a comforting and joyful one.

Helen will be laid to rest at a later date in the Oaklawn Cemetery in LaValle, WI. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences are available at www.harefuneralhome.com.
