Lola Lehrman Obituary

Lola Glanzberg Lehrman, beloved mother, grandmother, and partner in business and life, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 88.

Born on December 18, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, Lola was the daughter of Harry and Sally Glanzberg and sister to Alvin Glanzberg. She grew up in a large, close-knit extended family, where deep bonds of love, support, and connection shaped her values and remained a guiding force throughout her life.

Lola earned her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and her master’s degree from the Bank Street College of Education. In 1961, she married Lewis Lehrman, and together they built a life centered on family, art, and travel.

Lola joined Lewis as a partner in their business, Design Unlimited Culinary Concepts, a graphic design firm serving the hospitality industry. Later, the couple pursued their shared passion for art, opening The Gallery at Mill River in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, where they represented artists and fostered a vibrant creative community.

Known for her signature red lipstick and radiant smile, Lola had a sense of style that matched her vibrant personality. Her life was enriched not only by her love for family and art but also by her passion for travel. Together, she and Lewis explored the world, with favorite destinations including Israel, Europe, Thailand, and China. Their journeys were meticulously documented in Lewis’s detailed journals, featuring beautiful pen-and-ink sketches and watercolors. For Lola, these trips were more than just sightseeing—they were opportunities to immerse herself in different cultures (especially through food), forge meaningful connections, and fuel her boundless sense of curiosity and adventure. In 2020, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by embarking on a safari adventure in South Africa, accompanied by her daughter.

Lola’s energy, creativity, and devotion to her family were the cornerstones of her life. She is predeceased by her husband, Lewis, and is survived by her children, Matthew Lehrman (and his wife Toby) and JoAnn Lehrman (and her partner Matt Renner), as well as her grandchildren Julia, Jess, Marissa, and Harrison (and his wife Marnie Dubos), who cherished her deeply. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched.

A funeral service will be held at Sinai Mortuary, 4538 N 16th St, Phoenix, AZ 85016, on Friday, September 20, at 10:30 a.m. (Arizona time) and live-streamed on Zoom. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Lola’s memory to the Arizona Humane Society, reflecting her lifelong love for animals and commitment to compassionate causes.
