Larry William Jordan Obituary

     Larry William Jordan passed away on September 16, 2024, at the age of 78, in Waverly, Ohio.

     He was born February 18, 1946, in Chillicothe, Ohio.

     Larry spent most of his career in the public school system. He began teaching at Zane Trace Elementary and Junior High and was the reserve boys basketball and varsity track coach. Larry spent the next 26 years at Southeastern High School, where he taught Physical Education, served as the Athletic Director, and coached several sports in his time including football, baseball, cheerleading, and boys basketball. During his time at Southeastern, his basketball teams won 433 games, 15 Sectionals, 8 Districts, 3 regionals, and played in the 1977, 1981, and 1990 State Tournaments. Larry spent three years at Waverly High School in an administrative position and coached varsity basketball. He returned to Southeastern in 2000, for seven more years, where his teams won 105 games, 3 Sectionals, and 2 Districts. He then coached boys basketball at Jackson High School until 2009 and then Western High School until 2014. In total, Larry had over 600 wins, was Conference Coach of the Year 15 times, District Coach of the Year 6 times, and Associated Press Southeast Coach of the Year 3 times. Other accolades include serving as the District Director for District 14 of the OHSBCA, coached in the OHSBCA North-South game, and received the Paul Walker award in 2008.

     Larry graduated from Southeastern High School in Richmond Dale, Ohio. In high school, Larry was a gifted basketball player. He was an Ohio AP Player of the Year and an Honorable Mention All-American. After high school, he went to Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. While at Morehead, he played varsity basketball for four years. His Senior year, he was the Team Captain and played in the Kentucky-Tennessee All Star Game. He also graduated with his Master’s degree from the University of Dayton.

     Beyond his professional life, Larry was a man of many interests. He loved grouse and pheasant hunting, golfing, fishing, sports, raising bird hunting dogs and spending time with his family. Larry was a member of Richmond Dale United Methodist Church.

     Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Jordan; children Mike Jordan, Chad Jordan (Tara); grandchildren, Kylie Jordan-McCann (Braeden), Broc Jordan (Addison), Anna Jordan, Scotlyn Jordan, Krissy Jordan, and Huc Jordan. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Annabelle Jordan, his mother- and father-in-law, Chuck and Chris Ferrell, and his brothers, Jake Jordan, Kenny Garrison and grandson, Hayden Scott Jordan.

     A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at Southeastern High School in the Larry Jordan Gymnasium, with Rev. John Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery. Viewing will be 11 am – 2 pm prior to the service.  A meal in the cafetorium will follow.  Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.

     Larry’s life was one of faith, commitment, dedication, and love, and he will be forever deeply missed by his family and by all who ever knew him.
