Maria Johanna Jorritsma

January 26,1936 - September 15, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to a cherished wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother, dear sister-in-law, and family matriarch. Maria Johanna Jorritsma (née Deenen) passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 88. Maria leaves behind Jan, her partner and husband of 54 years; Jo-Anne, her daughter; as well as Charlotte and Annabelle, to whom she was a very proud Oma. Maria will also be missed by her in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, both here and in Holland, members of her parish community, and many neighbours throughout the years. Maria was predeceased by her parents, Theodorus and Gerarda, and her seven brothers and sisters, Jo, Anna, Mien, Martin, Rickie, Theo, and Gerry.

Maria immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1967 and settled in Newmarket with Jan and Jo-Anne in 1975. She was a very active member of the Catholic Women’s League since 1977, volunteering many hours during Christmas Bazaars and funeral receptions.

Maria will always be remembered for her welcoming home, her delicious meals made with love, and her generous and resilient spirit. May she rest in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held at St. John Chrysostom Parish on Friday, September, 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will commence at 11:00 a.m. Interment at St. John Cemetery will be held immediately following the Mass. All are welcome to join the family for a luncheon hosted by the CWL at the St. John Chrysostom Parish Hall following the interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Southlake Regional Health Centre would be sincerely appreciated by her family.
