James E. Hammack Obituary

James E. Hammack, age 74, of Van Alstyne, TX, passed away September 16, 2024. Born on May 6, 1950, Jim was a beloved son of the late Bill Hammack and Nina Evans. He graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1968 and went on to serve his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Jim worked at Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative for 49 years, where he was known for his dedication, hard work, and integrity.

On March 21, 1975, he married the love of his life, and best friend Debbie. Their 49-year marriage was a true testament to love, centered around deep affection, family, and devotion. Debbie remained by his side until the very end.

Jim was a devoted father to his two daughters, Amy and Leslie, always putting their needs first. He was also the best “Pops” to his grandsons, Casey and Colby, who were the light of his life. Jim cherished watching them grow into the men they are today and was immensely proud of them.

He will be remembered for his kind and gentle heart, being a man of few words, and having the sweetest smile that lasted until the end.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Bill Hammack and Nina Evans; his sister, Judy Pope; and his precious daughter, Leslie Hammack.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; his daughter, Amy, and her husband, David McKay, of Van Alstyne, TX; his grandsons, Casey and Colby McKay, also of Van Alstyne, TX; and his sister, Jeanette Kidd, of McKinney, TX. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law: Brian (Dana) Stevens of Sherman, TX, and Bruce (Julie) Stevens of Howe, TX; his sisters-in-law: Pam (Gary) Barcheers of Van Alstyne, TX, and Penny Griffin of Randolph, TX, along with several nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Home Hospice for the extraordinary care and compassion provided. A special thank you to Donya Davis, Sharon Allen, and Brinda Tillery for your unwavering support, and kindness during such a difficult time.

True to Jim’s private nature, a private family graveside service will be planned.
