Rosa Lee Royals McPhail, age 93, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024 at the Haven Hospice of Lake City after a brief illness. She was born on October 26, 1930 in Axon, Georgia. Rosa was a gentle soul who carried a sweetness and laughter that touched everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Viola Royals; her siblings, Johnny, Betty, James, Dan, Jeanette, Billy, Suzy, Inez, Becky and Aliene; her husband, Charles McPhail and her son, James Morris Swails. She is survived by her grandsons, Jimmy Swails and Jacob Allen Swails; her sister, Ruby Clyatt; along with several nieces, nephews and loved ones.
She was a member of the Cross Church of Lake City; where she was known as the “back pew diva”. Her passions included working in the garden, spoiling children and feeding her fish in the big pond.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rosa’s life and legacy during visitation on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Richard Harrison and Pastor Kenneth Edenfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
