Evelyn Constance Silver
Born January 21, 1929, died September 16, 2024, age 95
As a child and young adult known as Sunny and as a professional in the community known as Lynne. Born in Port Hope, Ontario on January 21, 1929, she is a daughter of Irving Margles who emigrated from Austria, and Freda Margles (nee Scheinman) of Collingwood, ON. Lynne’s first and only love from age 14 has been her husband Edward Ivan Silver. They recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
Wife to Ed Silver. Mother to Gregory (Dawn), Jonathan (passed 1992), Matthew (Mary), Dan (Diana). Grandmother to Hannah, Rebecca (Steve), Maxwell, Abigail (Dan), Emma, Jonathan, Donovan, Christi (Shane) and Lauren. Great grandmother to Lennon, Laken and Stephen. Lynne is predeceased by her sister Rohama (Honey) Rotenberg.
The family will keep alive their memories of her strength in character, loyalty to her family and spirit of volunteerism to the local community. Lynne passed peacefully at 7 AM Monday September 16, 2024, at the Royal Henley in St. Catharines.
Lynne graduated from the University of Toronto with her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work in 1950. In 1951 she married Ed and moved to St. Catharines where she worked as a rural child protection worker for Children’s Aid Society of Niagara. She then earned her Master of Science in Primary Education and moved to Niagara Child Development Centre (now known as Pathstone Mental Health) where her clinical expertise supported families with children under the age of 10 who lived with mental health challenges. From her home office she had a part-time private practice. She remained a full-time clinician until age 71.
Throughout her five decades of active community service Lynne also volunteered in various capacities for many local not-for-profit boards and agencies. She was a member of Congregation B’nai Israel where she was instrumental in revitalizing the library and was Bat Mitzvah. Lynne was honoured with life memberships in the Canadian Federation of University Women and the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. Lynne was an active gardener, and with Ed sailed not only the Great Lakes but the high seas into her mid 70’s.
Lynne will be genuinely missed albeit her memory remains alive and will continue to guide her family’s moral and ethical decisions into the future, as she has so effectively done until September 16, 2024.
Thank you to Dr. J., and staff at Royal Henley.
A graveside funeral service was held on Tuesday September 17, 2024, at B’nai Israel Cemetery in St. Catharines.
