The Beetel family is sad to announce the passing of Christopher J. Beetel on September 12, 2024 at the age of 92 due to natural causes. Chris was born in Trenton, NJ in 1932 to Thomas Beetel and his wife, Catherine Rose Beetel. Chris graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, MD in 1954 and from the Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in 1958. He performed his surgical residency in Vascular and Thoracic surgery at the University of Maryland and began his surgery career in Reading at the Reading Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Community General Hospital beginning in 1969. He also served in the United States Army as a Medical Corps Captain from 1960 to 1962, serving in Korea.
Chris was a devoted and active member of St. Ignatius Loyola parish in West Lawn for over fifty years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events and other school programs. Christopher is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne H. Beetel and their four children: Kathleen Hanrahan, Mary Ann Moffitt, Thomas C. Beetel and Christopher P. Beetel. In addition, Chris is survived by his ten grand-children: Brigid and Seamus Hanrahan, Annie Pichi (Paulik), John Paulik, Ellie and Caroline Beetel, and Madelynn, Sarah, Christian and Riley Beetel. His many hobbies over the years included sailing, hunting, horseback riding, tennis and Notre Dame football.
Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this difficult time. There will be a private funeral mass and burial for the family. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the American Heart Association.
