Joseph "Pappy" Allen Gower, Sr., 82, of Aurora, WV, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.

He was born August 25, 1942, in Rowlesburg, WV, a son of the late Herbert and Catherine (Jones) Gower.

Pappy was a logger and truck driver for Hunt Brothers Logging and Trucking. His most favorite hobby was fishing. Pappy was the life of every gathering. He loved to run the roads and go out to eat. There will be no other person like Pappy, and he will surely be missed!

Pappy is survived by two sons, Larry Gower and companion, Audrey White of Levels, WV, and Tommy Gower and wife, Tina of Augusta, WV; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Mary Pierson of Arthurdale, WV; several nieces and nephews; best friend Bob Pyles and best fur buddy, Boo.

In addition to his parents, Pappy is preceded in death by a son, Joseph Allen Gower, Jr.; two daughters, Amy R. Arbogast and Catherine Blystone; two brothers, William "Bill" Gower and Clarence Gower; sister, Alice Hartsell, and the mother to his children, Martha Jane (Close) Matheny.

Friends may call at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta, WV, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 11:00 am with Pastor Sam Moon officiating. Burial will follow in the Nestor Cemetery, St. George, WV.
