Alfredo C. Barrera Obituary

Alfredo Barrera Cervantes born in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas Mexico and raised in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Mexico passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas on 16 de Septiembre 2024 surrounded by much love from his loved ones. He journeyed to the United States and ultimately made San Antonio home for over 50 years. Although he had made his life in San Antonio, he always looked forward to visiting his beloved family and friends in his querido Monterrey, NL. He is preceded in death by his parents Everardo Barrera and Manuela Cervantes Barrera; siblings Martin, Cruz, Hector, Juventina, San Juana, Carmela, and Bertha Barrera. He is survived by his eternally devoted wife of nearly 50 years Celia Alcaraz Barrera and his only beloved daughter Teresa Cuellar (spouse Frank Cuellar), his sisters Martina Barrera Hernandez, and Rosa Barrera. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and multiple loyal friends who eventually became like Brothers to him and to the Barrera family.

Alfredo was immensely blessed in his life to have been loved by so many to include his family and family friends. From a young age, he loved to dance and met his devoted wife Celia after randomly asking her to dance with him at an event. From that day on, she became his lifetime dance partner. He would later teach his daughter Teresa (Tessy) at a very young age how to dance and was frequently remembered spinning them each around the dance floor at countless family weddings and quinceaneras. He loved music and took joy in playing it out loud regardless of the day, so on the day he left us to be with the Lord, his family played his favorite songs out loud and imagined him dancing those same songs as he did before. Que se oiga la musica. Alfredo loved sports and among his favorite teams were the LA Lakers, Houston Astros, and of course his all-time favorite San Francisco 49ers. Even though he would get grief about not being a Cowboy fan any longer, he would rejoice so much in wearing his 49er cap around the neighborhood for his errands-always a conversation with others. He was proud when they won last year’s NFC Championship. Alfredo worked multiple roles in his lifetime but most of his working years were spent working at Luby’s. There, he made friendships that would last many years-friends who became family and were there with him at his bedside during his final days on this earth. Alfredo will always be associated with Luby’s and his family will never have another meal at Luby’s and not remember him bringing home Luby’s meals after a long day’s work in the kitchen.

He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

The family is eternally grateful for the love and support received by his care teams at Cardinal Hospice of South Texas, Legend Oaks South Rehabilitation, Methodist Hospital, and the countless Family & Friends who supported Alfredo and his family during both their goodbyes to him and after his passing as well.
