Alexander “Sonny” Paul Alexander, age 83, of New Castle, passed away the evening of Sept. 12, 2024, at UPMC Jameson Hospital
Born Sept. 3, 1941, in Washington, PA, he was the son of the late Alexander and Mary (Griglak) Alexander.
Sonny was the graduate of Carmichaels High School. He was a member of the United States Army where he served as a mechanic, repairing tanks. He was employed by US Steel, as a mill worker, until his retirement. Sonny loved classic cars, attending fairs, car shows, and picnics. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing on the US Army football team. Sonny was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include, his partner of 46 years, Denise Eileen DeGaton; one daughter, Kristin; three sisters, Rose Mahle, Maryann Bizub and Delores ‘Dolly’ Nementh; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha ‘Toots’ Helmick, Helen ‘Bubbles’ Phanuef and Kay Burker.
Visitation will be held on Friday Sept. 20th from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 6:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Jordan Rimmer, of Northminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.
