Gertrud Saamen
(October 13, 1933)
Passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024 at Bradford Valley Care Community at the age of 90. Beloved wife of her late husband, Hans Herbert Saamen. Loving mother of Hans Juergen (Karen) and Linda Watson (Baron). Proud Oma to Brian (Melanie), Marie (Joseph), Reilly (Lindi), Madison (Louis), Haley, Taylor (Vivian) and Mallory. Great Oma to Evelyn, Wesley, Samuel, George, Victor, Lila, Jade, Silver and Mae.
In October 1956, Gertrud and Hans immigrated to Canada from Germany, settling in Newmarket in 1958. Gertrud owned and operated the Newmarket Delicatessen on Main St. for 17 years, giving customers a taste of her European culture.
She loved entertaining family and friends at her home and cottage. She will be remembered fondly by her friends and family as a person who was generous, giving, kind, and was always up for a good party. Her determined spirit will continually be cherished and admired by all of us.
Special thanks to the caregivers at Bradford Valley for their caring, kindness, patience and continual love. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre through the Southlake Foundation in her honour would be greatly appreciated.
