Mary Grace Macchia, 89, of Edison, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024. Born and raised in Jersey City, Mary later moved to Edison where she continued to be a pillar of strength and joy for her family.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Giosue Brescia and Guistina Mandriota, and her beloved brother, Victor Brescia. She is survived by her five children: Karen LaRocco (Anthony), Ann Marie Minor (Gary), George Macchia (Rosemichele), Carolyn, and Lisa Miele (Valentine Jr.). Mary was also a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Jenna McFarlane (Brandon), Lauren Reilly (Jack), Justin, Matthew, Ryan, Drew, William, Livia, Valentine III, Mariella, and Francesca, and great-grandmother to Billie Marie.

Mary’s commitment to education was evident early in her life. A distinguished member of the Ferris High School Class of 1952, she served as Associate Editor of the yearbook, was Vice President of her class, and was a proud member of the National Honor Society. Her academic excellence earned her a scholarship from the Dante Alighieri Society of Jersey City to attend New York University, and she later graduated from New Jersey City University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature.

Beyond her academic achievements, Mary was a beacon of love for her family. She treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially during holidays and vacations. She especially loved music and dancing making every gathering a celebration of life.

Mary will be deeply missed by her friends and family. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at Greenville Funeral Home in Jersey City from 8:30am-10:30am on Thursday September 19th, followed by a mass at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in her honor
