On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Peter Royal Matthews, loving brother and uncle and cousin passed away at the age of seventy-three. Peter grew up in Montreal and attended Carleton University and the University of P.E.I. where he studied Russian Literature. He worked in construction and in shipping and receiving. Although Peter struggled with mental health issues for most of his life, he never lost his joy of life or his good humor. He was always quick with a laugh or a smile. He enjoyed listening to classical music and socializing with friends. Peter loved good food, especially lobster from PEI, Montreal smoked meat or ribs at Ribfest. He loved spending time by the St. Lawrence River at the family cottage/home at Blakey’s Point.

The family is very grateful for the wonderful care he received from his worker of 35 years, Rhonda Perkins, at the Davison Avenue group home and Sherwood Park Manor. He will be dearly missed by his family, especially his sister Wendy Bennett from Brockville and his brothers, Wayne Matthews (Kathleen) of Victoria, and Derek Matthews (Venke) of Norway; as well as his nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews, along with his cousins. His physical and mental struggles are over and he is alive forevermore.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 17th at 11am, at Wall St. United Church https://www.youtube.com/live/fKycbbJ8Ohg?si=NEzWDjsEso62oSk2

A burial at the Blue Church will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wall Street United Church or to loaves and Fishes.
