Artie Campbell McGlohon of Fleetwood, NC passed away in his home on September 12th after battling cancer for many years.
He was born in Portsmouth, VA on September 21, 1944 to Wayland and Margaret McGlohon, and spent his childhood in Ayden, NC. He graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Business degree. After college, he joined the Navy and served in the Vietnam war where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Navy Commendation. After the war, he went on to have a successful career in sales.
Artie was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Wayland McGlohon, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jill Carpenter McGlohon, his daughter Melissa Decker, her husband Rodger, his daughter Amy Rucker, her husband Alan, and his grandchildren Carter, Sydney, Logan, his wife Riley, Lee and Lane. He has one surviving brother, David McGlohon, his wife, Maxie and son, Dave, and sister, Claire.
He was passionate about the things he loved, including his family, playing the banjo, riding horses, fly fishing, and watching UNC sports and the Atlanta Braves. He had a gift for making friends and cherished his friendships.
A memorial service will be held on the date which would have been his 80th birthday, September 21st at 1:00 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church in West Jefferson NC. A visitation will follow the ceremony.
