Russell Gail Ulm Obituary

Russell Gail Ulm, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at his residence in Riverside, California, surrounded by his loving children, Jodi, Jileen, and Scott.

He was born on May 12, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, to Paul and Ruth Ulm. He had an identical twin brother, George, and an older sister, Jeanette. He was raised in Los Angeles, California, and attended Dorsey High School, where he actively participated in football. Upon graduating from high school, he honorably served in the Coast Guard for four years.

He met his sweetheart, Susan (Susie) Ann Elicker, at an anniversary celebration they both attended. Shortly after, their love began to blossom. They united in marriage on October 9, 1965, at the Chapel of Roses in Pasadena, California. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, although he was not actively involved at the time. He became active when Susie joined the church in 1976. They were sealed for time and all eternity as a family in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on April 18, 1981.

Together, they lovingly raised three wonderful children, Jodi, Jileen, and Scott. He was a great provider and worked many long hours as a truck driver for various companies. He was a supportive father and was at every sports game his son Scott participated in. He loved to take his family camping in their motorhome, especially to Carpinteria Beach. He was a big jokester and loved to tease people, all while having a big smile on his face. He was a huge animal lover and especially loved the many dogs he had over the years. He was a man of service, and if someone was in need, he was always there to help, no matter the time of day or night.

After retiring and coping with the passing of his dear Susie, his hobby became restoring an old 1930 Model A Ford and turning it into a hot rod. This brought him much joy and he was involved in every step of the transformation. He participated in many car shows over the years and received many awards for his car. His grandsons loved going out in his car and would sometimes attend car shows with him.

He loved his four grandsons, Garrett, Jared, Hayden, and Preston, and his influence on them will forever be in their hearts.

Russell is survived by his three children: Jodi (Mark) Ohlwiler, Jileen (Mike) Meyer, and Scott (Karina) Ulm. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Garrett Webb, Jared Ulm, Hayden Webb, and Preston Ulm, and one great-grandson, Russell Webb. He is also survived by his sweet sister Jeanette Walters. We are so grateful for his dear friends Valerie Betz and Romero Gogue, whom the family cannot thank enough for the care and love they showed him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Ulm, his brother, George Ulm, and his parents, Paul and Ruth Ulm.

The family will be holding a memorial service to honor his life at Villa Magnolia Recreation Hall, located at 3500 Buchanan St., Riverside, CA 92503. The service will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Following the memorial service, there will be a private family graveside service at Riverside National Cemetery.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Retrievers and Friends of Southern California, Inc., a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter.
