Obituary:
After graduating from Nardin Academy with a Regent's diploma in 1959 , Barbara embraced motherhood and homemaking with vigor. She resided only one block away from her loving parents, Jean and Casimer Mietus. Barbara was devoted to nurturing her parents, her children Lisa and Marc, her brothers Daniel and Michael, their families, and many others. Her sisters-in-law, Mary Pettey, Sheryl and Paula Mietus, cousin Paula N. Urban and Rev. George L. Reger (former Pastor Blessed Trinity Church and Associate Most Holy Redeemer) were among her closest friends. Barbara quickly developed a reputation as an extraordinary hostess and gastronome, entertaining extended family, friends and anyone who happened to stop by. She had flawless culinary taste, was gifted in apparel and decor selection, and enjoyed gardening. Many were awed by Barbara's ability to stretch a dollar. After launching her children, Barbara continued her education, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Buffalo and a Master's Degree in Social Work in 1990. She was known professionally for her compassion, empathy and humor while employed at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. There she made a difference for many clients on the Breast Cancer, Bone Marrow and EAP services. Barbara was appreciated by many Roswell colleagues and friends who remained in touch well following her retirement. In her later years, Barbara relished traveling the world, visiting Poland, Spain, Cuba, China and Brazil among other venues. Barbara purchased and beautifully decorated two condominiums in the Buffalo Delaware Towers and Westfield, New York, where she avidly followed politics and world events through the end of her life. Barbara is survived by her children, Lisa Reid (John) and Marc (Lynn) and granddaughters, Laura and Leslie Amato and Margot Reid. She is also survived by her younger brother, Michael (Paula) and many beloved nephews and nieces.
