Mildred Grant Obituary

Mildred Grant 94, of Topton went home to be with Jesus on Friday, September 13, 2024 at her residence.

Mildred was a native of Nantahala and went to school in the Nantahala Community. After she graduated, she married her husband Doyle and together they made their home in Fayetteville, NC for two years, while he was stationed in the Army. Mildred and Doyle then moved to Wayne, MI where they raised their children and resided for sixteen years. After Michigan, Mildred and Doyle made their way back home to Nantahala. Mildred worked at the recycling center for many years and retired at the age of 88.


Mildred was deeply loved by her family and her community. She was of the Baptist Faith.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doyle Grant who passed away December 31, 2006, one sister, and three brothers.


Surviving is a daughter, Vivian Douthit of Nantahala, NC; a son, Steven Grant of Nantahala, NC; two sisters, Joyce Owenby and husband Verden, and Janice Dockery; one grandchild, Timmy Douthit Sr; and four great-grandchildren; Timmy Jr, Taylor, Tiara, and Trent Douthit.


Funeral Services were held at 12 pm, Wednesday, September 18, 2024 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews, NC with the Reverend Eugene Taylor officiating. Music was provided by Pam and Darrell Warlick and Hal Jacobs. Burial was in the Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Timmy Douthit Jr., Trent Douthit, Keith Owenby, Darrell Warlick, Shane Gregory, Dan Prince, and Timothy Douthit Sr.


The family received friends from 10-11:45 am Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews, NC.
