Nora Lynch Butler Obituary

Nora was born on December 17, 1949, in Woodbury, NJ, and passed away peacefully in Winchester, VA, on September 12, 2024, at the age of 74, after a long struggle with dementia. She is survived by her husband Gary, her son Benjamin and his wife Irina, her daughter Caroline and her husband Lee, grandchildren Jacob and Mila, step-children Julie and Mike, and sisters Judy, Moya, Antonia, Nan, and Maria.

Nora lovingly cared for her late husband, John, through his battle with mesothelioma until his passing in 2009. She met Gary while working at the IRS during lunchtime dance lessons, and they were married shortly after on October 20, 2012 . Nora retired in 2015 and spent her time enjoying her grandchildren, volunteering at local schools tutoring children, and traveling with Gary.

A kind, loving, and generous woman, Nora found joy in life’s simple moments. She loved reading, musicals, dancing, tea, and cereal. Her infectious laugh could light up a room. She had a deep and wonderful appreciation for the small, beautiful things in life. She will be dearly missed, but her joyful spirit will live on in everyone whose life she touched.

A celebration of Nora’s life will be held in Washington, D.C., on September 28 from 4-7pm at Nick's Riverside Grill (3050 K St. NW, Washington DC 20007). All are welcome to attend.
