James "Jim" Miner, 91, died peacefully at his son's home on September 11, 2024, in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was born on March 11, 1933, to the late Landis M. Miner and Margaret (Austin) Miner. Jim graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1951, where he met and married Hazel Sullivan, shortly after he joined the family gas business, Miner Gas House. Alongside his father, Jim delivered propane gas to neighboring cities and towns for many years before opening Miner Equipment Sales and Service. Jim sold appliances and heating/air conditioning units alongside his family. The family also owned and operated Jiffy Car Washes in Salem, Madison, and Scottsburg. Jim's final business adventure was Lake Iola Assisted Living for the Elderly. He had a big heart for the elderly and spent the last twenty-five years of his life caring for them. Jim's hobbies included square dancing. He was the former owner of the old square dance barn and a member of the Scott County Square Dance Association. Jim enjoyed several family vacations across the United States and recently looked through picture albums reliving many of those good times. Jim loved reading the daily newspaper, watching the news, and spending time with his dogs. He will be remembered as a kind, generous man who loved the Lord, his family, and his dogs. Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel. Jim is survived by one son, Garry (Kathy) Miner Scottsburg; one brother Mike (Judy) Miner, two grandchildren, Natalie (Mackey) Brown and Danielle Miner; and six great grandchildren, Noah, Laney, Lakyn, Luke, Bentley, and Macy. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana with John Lowry officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday at 10:00 at Collins Funeral Home. Burial will be private following the services at Scottsburg Cemetery.
