Francis J Bachand Obituary

Francis J. Bachand, 96, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Colonial Health and Rehabilitation. He was the loving husband of the late Edna (Millovitsch) Bachand. They were married for 61 years before her passing. Born in Norwich, the son of the late Ernest and Cora (Morin) Bachand.

After a brief stint in the Navy and working at the local textile mills, Fran worked at the Jewett City Post Office for over 30 years. His was usually the face that greeted you at the counter. In 1981, he was ordained a Deacon for the Norwich Diocese and served at St Mary Church in Jewett City. Never far from his guitar, Fran could be found singing at the annual Bachand Christmas party, nursing homes and other events with the Griswold Senior Chorus and the last few years at Creamery Brook with his music group, Fran and Friends. A quiet man, he loved his family, the church, music and books. His talents included woodworking, chair caning, enough knowledge of all the building trades to build his own home after retiring, and most importantly, being a wonderful father and Pepere to so many.

Francis is survived by his children and their spouses: Ed and Denise Bachand, Linda and Steve Knotts, Pete and Jan Bachand, Don Bachand, Dan and Gloria Bachand, Gerry and Trish Bachand, Marianne and Jim Lane; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two of his six sisters, Claire LaPointe and Virginia Marion.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Francis is predeceased by his son, Joe, daughter-in-law, Lucy, and four of his sisters: Mary, Margaret, Arlene, and Eleanor. In recent days, he was looking forward to reuniting with family, especially his wife Edna.
